I’m blogging from Dallas, so that should tell you that US Airways screwed us over again.

Last night, we were able to finally get a hold of someone on their customer service line that would actually answer the phone and get booked on the 1:54 PM flight (our original flight was at 7 AM).  We got up this morning, picked up the house one last time (I refuse to leave my house messy – who wants to come home from vacation to a dirty house?), got ready and headed to my parents’ house.  They live very close to the D/FW airport and with the ridiculous parking fees ($10-$20 a day), we were going to avoid parking at the airport if at all possible.

My parents dropped us off and barely drove away before we had to call them and let them know that they might have to come pick us up again.

We were told as we tried to check our luggage that the flight had been cancelled and that we needed to go upstairs and talk to someone at check-in to get booked on another flight, but when we got there, the general consensus was that there wasn’t going to be another flight we could get on today.

So, we both furiously dialed the customer service number and finally (after about 25 minutes) got a hold of some decently competent person that booked us on another flight tomorrow morning.   Whether that flight will actually take off out of Dallas and land in Charlotte, only time will tell.

The worst part of all of this is that US Airways is being deceiving.  They told us our flight was cancelled last night due to “prior aircraft maintenance being cancelled”.  They officially told us that this morning on the phone, too, but the employees at the airport told us it was due to weather.

From the fact that our original flight was cancelled due to “aircraft maintenance” to the fact that our second flight was cancelled less than an hour before it was scheduled to leave due to the same thing to the fact that we’re going to end up paying nearly $100 to each check a bag for both legs of the flight… well, we haven’t had a positive experience thus far.

I can’t say that I’m totally confident that we’re going to end up arriving in South Carolina tomorrow.  We told our house sitter that we’d just have to call her when we left since we’ve changed departure times on her about 800 times already.

Holiday air travel:  Not reliable.

So… instead of being on vacation in South Carolina right now, we’re at home, cuddling with the kitties.

Since we didn’t have any plans to actually be here tonight, dinner was slim pickins.

Not quite a repeat of last Friday, but almost.

This time I added penne pasta (Tinkyada) to the mix and fresh grated parmesan cheese.

Frozen veggies are something I don’t just rely on in a pinch – I actually really like them for both ease of preparation and taste (in cooked dishes) – but they’re also really handy to have around when you don’t have a lot else.

Bedtime is looming since we have to get up early tomorrow as well.  Keep your fingers crossed that we make it to Charlotte by dinnertime!

Ewww, airports are so frustrating at holiday time! And certain airlines in particular only make things worse…

To answer your question about tuna salad, I use mayo and chop in some red or green onion. If I’m feeling crazy, I add a bit of balsamic vinegar and some curry powder. Sounds weird but it’s pretty good. I’ve heard that some people add salsa! I bet that would be awesome… I add relish to mine sometimes, so I feel like a mild salsa might be kind of a similar texture.

That was a lot of tuna talk.
