Gluten-free Products

When I first went GF, finding reliable – tried and true – information about what was safe was really difficult.

It still is.  As a result, I don’t eat a huge amount of processed foods.  I generally prefer to try to eat whole foods as the ingredients in a pear or apple are never going to change.

But occasionally I take chances and eat products that appear to be safe without always calling the company. Would I probably get sick less often if I never took chances?  Yes.  But I’ve also discovered a lot of safe products this way.

Below are some of my staples:  gluten-free, corn-free, xanthan gum-free.   I will remove products if I start having problems with them.

Baked goods:

  • Kinnikinnick White Sandwich bread
  • Kinnikinnick Brown Sandwich bread
  • EnerG Light Tapioca Bread
  • Kinnikinnick Tapioca Rice English Muffins
  • Van’s Original GF Waffles

Dry goods:

  • Only Oats Rolled Oats
  • Only Oats Oatbran
  • Uncle Ben’s or Great Value rice
  • Bob’s Red Mill Steel-cut Oats

Dips/Sauces/Spreads:

  • Fleischman’s Olive Oil Buttery Spread
  • Land O Lakes Butter
  • Maple Groves Farms Sugar-free Maple Syrup
  • Smuckers Natural Peanut Butter
  • Smuckers Low-Sugar Grape Jam
  • Blue Diamond Almond Butter
  • Barney Butter Almond Butter
  • Peanut Butter & Company Peanut butters
  • Wholly Guacamole “Pico de Gallo” or “Original” Guacamole
  • Wholly Guacamole salsa
  • Annie’s Organic Ketchup
  • Muir Glen Organic Ketchup

Dairy:

  • Dannon, Fage, Chobani, Oikos and Siggi’s Greek Yogurt, plain
  • Silk Light Plain Soymilk
  • Horizon Organic Fat-free Milk
  • Sargento, Great Value (Walmart brand), or Kraft cheeses
  • Laughing Cow Light Original Cheese wedges

Fun stuff:

  • Ghiradelli Chocolate Chips
  • Dove Dark Chocolates
  • Nestle Cocoa powder
  • Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa powder
  • Diamond Walnuts
  • Lara bars
  • Two Moms in the Raw bars

Notes:

9/14/09 – removed Oikos.  It was pointed out that Stoneyfield does not list Oikos on their GF product list even though it sure looks GF.  I’ve had some tummy upset on the days I’ve eaten it recently so to be safe, I’m going to avoid it for now.

11/29/09 – removed Rice Chex.

2/4/10 – added Oikos back.  Now certified GF.

Have you tried the Udi products? Their bread is great and tastes the closest to the real thing (IMO) and they make a tasty pizza crust.
